review - anandha thandavam

I watched the movie within days of its release. I expected a house full theatre considering its summer holidays and movie is one of the biggest entertainment for most of us in this country. Well to my surprise the theatre was empty and that gave me a pretty bad impression abt the movie. The movie is an is sincere adaption of writer Sujatha's novel PRIVOM SANDHIPOM. The director sticks to the novel but somewhere he has lost track and things go haywire and makes ur squirm in ur seats waiting for the ordeal to end. In my opinion the wrong placement of songs, which pops up when the situation least requires and the sloppy editing has lead to the essence of a very beautiful emotional drama going down the drains.
The movie beings with our hero Raghu trying to commit sucide due to love failure. The flashback unfolds and we are given the reason for him taking the extreme step. The hero is an engineering grad who returns home after certain unsuccessful interviews. Bck home he has a supporting dad who treats him more like a friend. Enters Madhumitha, and our hero falls head over heals in love with her to which the parents show no objection. The girl though reciprocates seems to have no strong feelings for the guy. Eventually engagement takes place but things arent very happy in our hero's paradise for long. Enters Rishi a nri who is from New York transfixes Madhu’s parents and gets her married. Raghu is rescued by his dad and with all the support he gets from his dad he packs his bags to US to start life afresh. There he meets Rathna, an indian girl born and brought up in america waiting to get back to her roots. Marriage is fixed between them by their parents. Fate has other plans and enters madhumitha again into the hero's life leading to many twist and turns in the second half and finally leading to a tragic end....
New comer sidharth has done a decent job for a first timer. the chemistry between him and tamanna is good. This film is another feather in tamanna's hat and she is really improving her acting skills with every movie. The girl is here to stay.Rukmani proves of her good acting and she’s more matured than in her debut ‘Bommalaatam’. Rishi fits the space of antagonism while Kitty’s characterization is stupendous. Charlie does justice to his role. The biggest let down is gv prakash's music with just one or two songs just managing to capture our attention. The picturization of the songs look ancient. The end does leave a impact on the audience and the full credit goes to tamanna for that. Be it the immatured and confused girl in tenkasi or as the wife who experiences domestic torture, she has done complete justice to her job. All this goes to waste due to a screnplay which works just in parts.
On the whole the movie is a miserable adaption of a beautiful love story. Its worth a watch if ur a tamanna fan.
